CODE OF CONDUCT
The SMTX Chess Club Code of Conduct
At the SMTX Chess Club, we strive to create an inclusive, respectful, and enjoyable environment for all members. To ensure the best experience for everyone, we ask that you adhere to the following guidelines:
1. Respect for All Members
- Treat fellow players, organizers, and guests with kindness and respect at all times, both in-person and online, during games, discussions, and club activities.
- There will be zero tolerance for abusive, offensive, or discriminatory language or behavior.
2. Fair Play
- Cheating, including using external assistance during games (e.g., engines, phones, advice), is strictly prohibited unless agreed upon for analysis.
- Please report any suspected cheating or rule violations to a club official.
3. Good Sportsmanship
- Try to greet your opponent with a handshake, fist bump, or respectful gesture before and after games.
- If you are the stronger player, support others in improving their skills by offering constructive feedback.
- Be a gracious winner and a respectful loser and always encourage others in their progress.
4. Inclusivity
- The club welcomes players of all ages, genders, races, religions, and skill levels.
- Bullying or any exclusionary behavior will not be tolerated.
5. Respect for the Venue and Equipment
- Treat the club space with care and cleanliness, disposing of all trash responsibly.
- Handle all chess equipment respectfully and return all items to their proper place after use.
6. Communication
- If issues or conflicts arise, address them with respect, and reach out to club organizers for assistance.
- Constructive discussions about strategies or the game are encouraged, but avoid political discussions, personal arguments, or other inflammatory comments or subjects.
7. Zero Tolerance for Harassment
- The club has a zero-tolerance policy for sexual harassment or any form of harassment.
- This includes unwelcome advances, inappropriate comments, gestures, or behaviors that create an uncomfortable or hostile environment.
- All members must respect others’ personal boundaries and conduct themselves in a manner that ensures a safe and inclusive space for everyone.
8. Disciplinary Actions
- Violations of this Code of Conduct may result in warnings, suspension, or expulsion from the club, depending on the severity and frequency of the offense.
- All disciplinary actions are at the discretion of the club leadership.
